2 Peter 1: 3 MSG
"Everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us by getting to know, personally and intimately, the One who invited us to God. The best invitation we ever received!"
The best invitation we ever received! I was reminded of this yesterday when I found out that a dear friend had suddenly passed from here to heaven. The only positive thing about this loss is the knowledge that she knew Jesus and is now in His presence. My question to you is have you accepted your invitation to get to know, personally and intimately, Jesus Christ? If not, is this your opportunity to accept your invitation? Are you feeling that tug on your heart, in your mind, in your spirit? Then now is the time! Accept the invitation and pray this simple prayer: "Lord Jesus, I need you. Thank you for dying on the cross to cover for my mistakes, for my sins. I ask You for forgiveness for my sins. I ask you to come into my life, into my heart as my Lord and my Savior. Thank you for giving me the gift of eternal life. I want to live a new life with you, getting to know you personally and intimately. Thank you, Jesus. Amen."
Don't lose a minute getting started in your new life. So, what is next? Find a Bible, find a Church home, find a Mentor, get Baptized. Your faith will grow as your knowledge of God and His word grows. I suggest beginning your journey with the book of John (the 4th book in the New Testament). Slowly, as your knowledge increases, you will begin to change as you become more and more like Jesus. Don't rush it and don't give up. This is a slow process that resembles the life that we live in the natural; a baby, a toddler, a child, a tween, a teen, a young adult, an adult, mid-life, mature life and senior life...until we enter eternal life. A slow process for us as humans, but so short in the pattern of eternity. Find a church that feels like home, that preaches the word (the truths in the Bible) and encourages mentoring. Mentoring (discipleship) is important. Find someone who is further along in their walk with God and ask them questions, lean on them for help as you grow in your own understanding until one day, you'll find that you have become a mentor yourself. (Now...don't laugh...it will happen)
Open that invitation, open your heart and fill it with Jesus and His love will change your life.
2 Peter 1: 5-11 MSG
"So don’t lose a minute in building on what you’ve been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others. With these qualities active and growing in your lives, no grass will grow under your feet, no day will pass without its reward as you mature in your experience of our Master Jesus. Without these qualities you can’t see what’s right before you, oblivious that your old sinful life has been wiped off the books. So, friends, confirm God’s invitation to you, his choice of you. Don’t put it off; do it now. Do this, and you’ll have your life on a firm footing, the streets paved and the way wide open into the eternal kingdom of our Master and Savior, Jesus Christ."
