End of the Year
Today we celebrate the end of a year. Are you rejoicing, going over all the great stuff that's happened in the past year, or are you are just glad to see it gone? Finally it's over!
This past year may have been a rough year for some of us. We all make choices everyday. Some of them don't turn out quite the way we had dreamed or anticipated. Life can knock our feet right out from under us with the unexpected and the unforeseen. Consequences can trigger regrets, indecision and depression.
Perhaps your thoughts are still on that choice you made that didn't end well. Maybe a job change isn't as bright and shiny as you thought it would be. This past school semester wasn't as easy as you'd anticipated and your grades have dropped. Maybe you've lost loved ones this year and the grief is still riding strong in your heart. Your relationship is over and it took you completely by surprise. Life can throw punches that we wish had never happened. Can we please just turn the clock back?
I have good news. Here in Isaiah 43, God has a powerful word for us.
Isaiah 43: 18-19 NLT
"But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland."
Grief and loss can feel like you're in a desert with no relief, but God has rivers coming that will give you new life and a new hope. Whatever you're hashing around in your mind, all the 'if onlys' you're regretting, let them all go. God has something new in the works for you. New pathways and new opportunities are just over the horizon.
Look at the words in Isaiah 43: 18-19 again (paraphrased by Peggy), "Yesterday is over. Look, I have already begun the new thing. It's right there. Don't you see it? It's coming. I've got a plan. It's gonna be great!"
Sometimes it's the thing that didn't work out the way you thought it would, that opens the way for the plan God had already set up.
