For the last little while I have been cleaning closets. Tackling those hidden dust bunnies and reorganizing the built up clutter. Redirecting things to a new home, a new owner or to the trash. Like the saying goes 'A place for everything and everything in its place'. I like to know where stuff is located, so that when I need it, I can find it.
I appreciate order, even my ordered chaos. My house isn't perfectly clean, by any stretch of the imagination. There are crumbs, papers, toys and blankets scattered about. 'Lived in' is the term that I associate with my home. Clean is really an illusion. <wink wink> It's ordered, but it's pretty dusty on the surface. Ordered chaos.
So, there I was. Cleaning, organizing, doing my thing, and of course, singing a song. After a little while, I realized I was singing the words all wrong. Or was I? The song was "Change My Heart Oh God" by Vineyard, except that I was singing 'Clean my heart oh God, make it ever true. Clean my heart oh God, may I be like You.' Maybe, at least for today, these new words were just the right words.
We all need to take stock every once in a while. Clean out a closet, the trunk, that pesky junk drawer at home or at work. Maybe we need to take time to ask God to clean up our hearts too. Yep. That's right. We might need a little spring cleaning too.
Here is my prayer: Create in me a clean heart, Oh God. Renew in me a right and steadfast spirit. Shake off any dust bunnies and clean up any smudges. Order my chaos. Declutter the cluttered. Order my steps and put me in the right place for the right time. Oh yeah!
'Clean my heart, Oh God. Make it ever true.
Clean my heart, Oh God. May I be like you.'
Psalm 51:10 AMP
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a right and steadfast spirit within me."
