We like to have things our way. A infamous saying by parents everywhere is 'it's my way or the highway.' We've either heard it or said it ourselves. We may consider things good, bad or indifferently, but it's usually our way that we want. Our way can be good for us and bad for us. We can take extremes way too far in order to have it our way. Extremes seldom end up well. We like a beverage with ice and without ice, with a straw and without a straw. Caffeinated or decaffeinated. Organic, vegan, or gluten-free. We all have something we like, because we know our way is the way we like it. Period. The media is big on telling us to have it your way. You deserve this or that, so just get it. Don't worry about the cost or the ramifications today, you can worry about the potentials tomorrow. Have it your way. You deserve it. You too can have ... whatever it is you think you deserve. Whether it's a foundation of rules for your lifestyle, the routine you use to get ready for work or the way you're accustomed to eating meals, we all have things we like to do a certain way. If things get out of order, we can become out of order ourselves. Losing our cool and letting loose with all the reasons why it was not what we deserved. 'Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him.' How do we learn to think like Jesus? The next section tells us.
'Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way.' Don't expect to get everything your own way. Wow! We aren't always going to get the things we think we are supposed to have our way. What a concept. In case your Momma didn't tell you before, here is the truth. Life is not always fair. You may not get everything you expect when you expect it. It might happen or we may never get it. Life is not set up for all of us to win a trophy everyday. Sometimes we just don't measure up to the criteria that's required. Hard work and perseverance bear fruit. When we expect something for nothing, we end up with nothing. Stop striving for what you think you deserve, just because you think you deserve to have it. Stop pursuing what you think you want or deserve and pursue God. Turn all your striving towards God. Live a life for God. God will direct your life. God will provide you with all you need. God knows what you want and what you need. Who knows, what you think you want, may even be what God desires for your life. Pursue God and you'll be satisfied. 1 Peter 4:1 MSG "Since Jesus went through everything you’re going through and more, learn to think like him. Think of your sufferings as a weaning from that old sinful habit of always expecting to get your own way. Then you’ll be able to live out your days free to pursue what God wants instead of being tyrannized by what you want."
