There are some verses that make my heart sing. There are some verses that reach out to my broken places. There are others that challenge my mind or help my heart heal. There are some verses that inspire me to become more than I was yesterday. This is one of those verses. Romans 12: 4-6 MSG "In this way we are like the various parts of a human body. Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around. The body we’re talking about is Christ’s body of chosen people. Each of us finds our meaning and function as a part of his body. But as a chopped-off finger or cut-off toe we wouldn’t amount to much, would we? So since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvelously functioning parts in Christ’s body, let’s just go ahead and be what we were made to be, without enviously or pridefully comparing ourselves with each other, or trying to be something we aren’t." Each of us is excellently formed. Not ok, or average or better than someone else. Each of us is excellently formed. We all function marvelously. Not mediocre or anything else that we could be thinking, but marvelously formed. Dang! Excellently and marvelously formed parts. Parts. Parts mean that we each have a reason and purpose. Gifted with everything we need to do our part. 'Each part gets its meaning from the body as a whole, not the other way around.' Which means that we each get our meaning from Christ. Whatever our purpose, whatever gifting we have are given by Jesus, is given to us in order to provide for all of us. Parts of the whole. Whether we teach in elementary schools, colleges or churches, we are each gifted by Jesus. Whether we are nurses, doctors or compassionate friends, we are part of the body. Whether we talk about our relationship with Jesus from the pulpit or from an armchair we are called to be bold. Whether we are blazing trails in technology or on a new adventure in ministry, we are doing the thing we are called to do and be through Christ. No comparisons or envious glances are needed. Be all that you were made to be. Do everything you do with enthusiasm and happiness. Your life and your purposes are excellently and marvelously formed to provide something special and dynamic. Be all you can be, in every thing that you do, and always proclaim the truth and joy that can be found in Jesus.
