The Dad Life

Father's Day is upon us. Fathers everywhere are being celebrated and honored for being dads. It's more than just a day. It's a full time job. Everyday. All day long and sometimes in the middle of the night too. It's all about how we are handling the day to day situations. It's about the good days and the bad days. It's all about the day to day Dad life. Dads everywhere all have to endure the big questions and the discussions they entail. Dads are dealing with sick days and make the most of the best days. The good grades and bad grades, the good choices and bad choices, and the rewards and the punishments. It's about curfews made and curfews broken and those moments that fill you with terror. It's about filling out those college applications and receiving those dreaded skinny letters of rejection. It's about taking them camping for the first time to signing them up for boot camp. It's about lessons on how to thread a needle, to how to tie a hook, to casting skills, and learning how to carve the turkey. Lessons that teach checkbook skills and driving lessons, develop knife sharpening skills to developing a relationship of iron sharpens iron. It's about looking forward to those special moments that become the best memories of your life. The day to day Dad life. Proverbs 20:7 NKJV "The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him." The Righteous Man. That's about all of you Dads out there. (And some of you single Moms too) The Righteous man walks in his integrity. Righteousness means that we are doing our best to be all that God wants us to be, and knowing that (thankfully) God's still working on us. That when we mess up, God is there to help us repair the problem and move on to the next one. Step by step. Day by day. God has generously gifted us with what we need to make each day a better day. Integrity is about doing it right, as often as possible. Admitting it when you're doing it wrong, and asking Him for help when you don't know what to do. Thankfulness, forgiveness, and trusting that God's got your back. 'His children are blessed after him', because they knew him, learned from him and saw him handle the day to day Dad life with enthusiasm, encouragement, discipline and love. The Dad Life.
