A Good Word
Mysteries novels are fun to unravel. They can take us to unexpected places and on unanticipated journeys. Who else besides me loves a good mystery? I know I'm not the only one. Come on, fess up. A good mystery is full of intrigue and suspense. I enjoy reading a good mystery novel, especially on vacation. There is a genre of Christian suspense and mystery books that make for a good read with the Good Word all over their pages. They are intriguing and inspiring at the same time. A good mystery novel and an encouraging word at the same time. That kind of mystery and adventure can take you on a journey of faith and discovery during a lazy afternoon with yourself. I also enjoy watching a good mystery on TV... NCIS, Rizzoli and Isles...you get the idea. Good guys win-in-the-end suspense. Not too long ago, I was watching a rerun of R & I and heard a 'God Moment' loud and clear. 'You can choose how you respond to this situation. It's up to you.' Personally, I can sometimes be resistant to choosing the best way (the right way) to respond when faced with a challenging situation. Choosing to respond well...well, it can be hard. Oh, let's be honest, it can be down right frustrating and irritating to boot. But, (and this is always the kicker) but, God. Seriously. This moment was like opening a box of Cracker Jack's. Here's the surprise inside. Right there on the TV screen.
Have you ever noticed that we hear God's voice in the most unexpected places? Television, novels, that little article that we read while sitting in the lobby at our doctors office. Our kids, the neighborhood kids, the bagger at the grocery store. Most especially when reading His Word, but you never know when or where you might 'hear' something that God intends just for you. A good word. Something that makes you stop and take notice. It's a mystery and yet, it's so much like God. Yep. He is talking to us all the time, but are we picking up on His wisdom? Are we listening? God gave us free will. He gave us freedom through Jesus. He gave us The Holy Spirit to guide us in those freedoms. Unction. The urging of the Spirit to do to something. Freedom means we get to choose whether or not we will listen. Hhhmm, makes a body think doesn't it? Galatians 5:13 MSG "It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows."
