As we experience life, there may be trying times. Times when we need a friend to lean on. Times when we need a good meal to fill our bellies. Sharing food, a bed, and your homes with others in their time of need is the epitome of hospitality. Hebrews 13:1-2 MSG "Stay on good terms with each other, held together by love. Be ready with a meal or a bed when it’s needed. Why, some have extended hospitality to angels without ever knowing it!" As power is being restored in various areas, our families and friends are celebrating returning home to their own beds. Sharing our homes when someone needs a bed that includes air conditioning is invaluable when you are without that treasured cold air. One friend said we are a spoiled people who can't do without our electricity. That may very well be true, but I prefer to consider our preference for AC and all the 'necessities' we cherish as a blessing. Bless those around you with whatever we have to offer; be it a good hot meal, a hot (or semi cool) shower, a load of laundry, a plug to charge a phone or a good night's sleep in the AC. That reprieve is sometimes all we need to boost our energy levels and improve our outlooks and dispositions.
The truth is that we don't know what tomorrow might bring. We might be the ones in need someday. We might be without power, water or AC and really need that helping hand. We should stay on good terms with each other, held together by love, so that we will be ready no matter what happens. God's plan includes us helping and loving each other through difficult situations. Hospitality is one of the best kinds of gifts we can give during the aftermath of trying times. You just never know, you might be sharing a meal with an angel in disguise.
