Far from Perfect

'Far from perfect'. Have you ever used this phrase in reference to yourself or others? I have. Most of us have. We say phrases like this while discussing our past choices. Perhaps in reference to circumstances that we are not so proud of sharing. Perhaps, even in a not so kind way, about someone else's choices. Life can be challenging. There may have been times and choices that we wish we could go back and change. We have it all figured out, until that curve ball comes out of left field, and we react poorly. Hebrews 7:26-28 MSG "So now we have a high priest who perfectly fits our needs: completely holy, uncompromised by sin, with authority extending as high as God’s presence in heaven itself. Unlike the other high priests, he doesn’t have to offer sacrifices for his own sins every day before he can get around to us and our sins. He’s done it, once and for all: offered up himself as the sacrifice. The law appoints as high priests men who are never able to get the job done right. But this intervening command of God, which came later, appoints the Son, who is absolutely, eternally perfect." Perfection was, is and always will  be achieved, only through Jesus Christ. For us, perfection is the quest, and far from perfect is, inevitably, the result. Less than perfect doesn't mean that we are far from achieving anything good in our lives. In every day ways we should strive to become more like Jesus. It's in our everyday responses that we learn how to respond well to the unexpected. It's in the unexpected moments, in the 'far from perfect' moments of our lives, that we know our salvation is found and rests, fully, in Jesus. In these moments, we hope to and plan to be like Jesus. When we aren't, He is. When we are, He still is. His life and death, His perfection, makes it all, everything, possible for us.

Our response should always be to become more like Jesus in our everyday lives. In our everyday, perfectly ordinary lives, is where the deep well is found. That deep well that we can reach into during the hard to manage moments in our lives. The far from perfect moments aren't usually our best moments. It's Jesus who brings us closer to perfectly wonderful moments and responses that we can be proud of. With Jesus in our corner, perfect gets closer every day.
