Cleaning is not my favorite thing to do. It's probably not most people's favorite activity, yet we all know that somebody's gotta do it. Now, I know there are those of us out there who like to keep things clean and tidy. 'Those' being the operative word. Yep, you can count me in on that one. I like to know where things are, so that when I need them, I can find them. Almost typed 'if', but we all know it's a 'when' situation. Today, I was cleaning up an item to pass along to a friend. It's not all that dirty, but I thought it needed a good cleaning. As I was getting into the nooks and crannies of it, I suddenly stopped. I realized that my friend was just going to do all this cleaning again. She was going to want to make sure all the nooks and crannies were squeaky clean. She'd want to be sure that there wasn't anything hidden that might be harmful for her family. My brakes came on quickly and I stopped. I stopped because I realized I was cleaning for myself, what should be cleaned by someone else. Yep. That moment happened. That moment right there is where things started getting all deep on me. Father, what are you trying to say here? That was my question. We try to do stuff that should be done by other people. It's not until we realize that it's not our job to take on, that we can step back and stop. We can't see, what we can't see, until we see it. Yeah. I know. It's hard to see and harder to understand. We don't have to try to do everything for everyone. When we are doing something that someone else should be doing, we are interfering with their blessings. Yikes. Ouch. Psalm 119:73 NLT "You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands." Let the Holy Spirit be your guide. Be open to the urgings that may take us another way than we thought we were going. Even when it may seem easier to 'just do it yourself', someone else may need the opportunity to learn or do something for themselves. We have all found ourselves stuck in the 'this is the way we've always done things' moments. The goal is to listen closely and not miss the 'another way' opportunities to be used by God. Sensing the Holy Spirit giving us the 'all stop' or 'another way' sign can be challenging. Just as this verse tells us, pray for the sense to follow His commands.
Staying in our own lane can be difficult sometimes, but the benefits can be far-reaching. For them and for us. Listen closely to the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and when He takes you 'another way' go for it.
