Dance Like You Know How
Dance like nobody's watching. It is a phrase we have all become familiar with over the years. It is the first line to a quote attributed to William W. Purkey. Mr. Purkey was a public school teacher turned professor who knew the importance of being able to 'live like it's heaven on earth'. The complete quote is an encouragement to let go and enjoy life from someone who, I believe, found encouragement in the promises of God.
"You’ve gotta dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt,
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”
These words are so true. We can get so twisted up in the things that we think people might say or think about us. We forget how fun it is to just be ourselves. God encourages us to let go of the tangled and twisted things that hold us captive. Let go of our baggage and dance. Let loose and enjoy how beautiful life really is.
Psalm 35:9 MSG "But let me run loose and free, celebrating God’s great work, Every bone in my body laughing, singing, “God , there’s no one like you." We should live free. Running straight for the wonderfulness that is found in our everyday lives. Celebrating the beauty that surrounds us in the smiles and giggles of little children, the gentle touch of a hand, and all the hugs and kisses that speak volumes of love to our hearts. Take the time to savor the crunch of an amazing taco, the deliciousness of a yummy brownie and the tang of a perfect glass of lemonade. Appreciate the vista of a sunset, the majesty of a mountain range, the tranquility of the ocean or the beauty of field; those visual moments that take our breath away and stop us in our tracks. Enjoy the silence, join in the laughter, be part of the singing. Relax into conversations, share experiences, reminisce and remember the things that have brought us joy. All the unexpected moments that transform our everyday lives in the extraordinary moments that we cherish.
Dance like you know how, laugh with yourself and sing anyway. Make a joyful noise, run and let loose. Let loose of whatever might be holding you back. Let loose, because God's has everything covered. Run towards the possibilities for your life. Your great adventure. The adventure of a lifetime is waiting for you to join in on the fun. Participate in the joyful moments that we find surrounding us everyday. Run loose and free, celebrating God's awesomeness as you go.
Today marks my first full year writing Gathered Under Grace Devotionals. 365 days of devotionals written and posted. It's hard to believe and yet I know it's true because I can see the number. It's right there in bold type - clearly listed on the sites posting feature (blink blink). I stand in Awe of God and I am overwhelmed in the moment. Faith ... Hope and Love. Lots of Faith, more Hope and tons of Love from family, friends and readers. Thank you each for your support and encouragement. It really means the world to me. I can't do this alone and it's so encouraging to know you are out there reading, sharing, liking, commenting and most of all praying with me. My prayer remains for Holy Spirit to continue to inspire and instill words that flow from my fingertips and onto the page. Words for each of us, words that encourage and uplift, words that correct (ouch!) and heal, words that teach us to be all that God has called us to be for the world. Here's to what tomorrow brings ... may the adventure continue. Many blessings and loads of Joy! God Bless!
