In the Meantime
John 4:31 MSG "In the meantime, the disciples pressed him, “Rabbi, eat. Aren’t you going to eat?” We pick up at 'in the meantime.' Don't you love it? While you've been doing what you been, doing ... here, see what we did! We went and got food. You need to eat. Don't you want to eat? I imagine that Jesus gives them 'the look'. The look that says 'I was in the middle of something and you interrupted me, AND you were rude to my guest.' Instead of saying anything like that Jesus says 'I have food to eat that you know nothing about'. I can see the looks they exchanged. 'What? You already ate? What did you eat? Where did you get food? Who gave you food?' Confused and dazed they didn't understand the power of a single conversation. John 4:34 MSG "Jesus said, “The food that keeps me going is that I do the will of the One who sent me, finishing the work he started." Jesus points to the fields. The fields must have been easy to see, there near the well. "Look! Harvest time is coming, probably in about four months or so.'" That's what you see. What's right in front on you. I want you to open your eyes to the possibilities. "These Samaritan fields are ripe! It's harvest time!“ Confusion must have reflected from their eyes, because He goes on to explain more of what He meant. We are working together with God. Working in these Samaritan fields. The Harvester and the Sower. Together we are reaching those who are ready. Ready for what? Ready to receive the truth. Ready to know and understand. Ready for the Harvest. "Without lifting a finger you (the disciples) have walked in on a field worked long and hard by others.” What does that mean? They didn't understand that the conversation between Jesus and the woman at the well would launch an abundant harvest of people receiving Jesus' message of redemption. One woman's story lead many of the people in the village to Jesus and they would commit themselves to Him and His teachings. This one woman out there telling everyone the Good News. “He knew all about the things I did. He knows me inside and out!” He is the Messiah we have been waiting for. People devoted their lives to Christ, because of one conversation Jesus had with one woman. John 4:42 MSG "They said to the woman, “We’re no longer taking this on your say-so. We’ve heard it for ourselves and know it for sure. He’s the Savior of the world!” Jesus and the disciples stayed for two additional days. People heard. People listened. People learned. People devoted themselves to Jesus. People received redemption. People were changed forever. In the meantime, Jesus had a conversation with one person. She came towards Jesus that day expecting rejection and condemnation and received reconciliation and redemption. He was waiting for lunch, and in the meantime, He launched a harvest. Conversations with Jesus are powerful.
