Cherry or Strawberry?
I found myself standing, undecided, in front of the Chapstick today. I couldn't decide between the strawberry and cherry. My brother in law wanted some Chapstick 'like that cherry kind I had given him one time'. You see he wasn't feeling well. He was discharged from the hospital recently and he is still recovering. We went to the doctors today and that little trip wiped him out. Being sick has sapped his strength and all he wanted was a jug of white grape juice and some of that cherry lip balm that I had given him one time. I don't remember having any kind of cherry lip balm. I don't like cherry flavored anything, so I'm not sure what he was talking about. I went with cherry and strawberry, because I would've wanted the strawberry, but since he was thinking about cherry, I decided to get them both. He was the one who wasn't feeling well, so my intentions were to make his day better, however I could. Matthew 7:12 MSG "Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God's Law and Prophets and this is what you get." Doing good things for others, helps them. In process of helping someone else we get a bonus surge of happiness. It makes us feel better, to make someone else feel better. Try it sometime. Do something unexpected and thoughtful for someone else. Not because you feel obligated or pressured, but out of the goodness of your own heart. It doesn't have to be a purchase at all. Maybe run an errand, wash a load of clothes or make a bed. Being thoughtful doesn't have to cost a dime. It doesn't have to be big or extravagant. Chapstick certainly isn't an extravagant purchase, but the impact will show extravagant love.
Love others like Jesus loves us. Extravagantly. It's not about the cost for us. It's about the cost Jesus paid. Share His love today.
