Creaky Rusty Situation
1 Corinthians 13:1 MSG “If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.” Several times recently, the Holy Spirit has brought me to this verse. Several times I began writing with this verse in mind, and then the Holy Spirit lead me elsewhere. He leads, we follow. That’s my motto, so here goes; let’s see where He takes us. We are supposed to speak positive words that uplift and strengthen one another. Words that lead others into a relationship with Jesus. Words that bring others into a deeper relationship or understanding as a believer. Words that display to others that Jesus is alive and part of our lives. That’s what we should do; how we should act and speak. When the fears from the world impact our speech, we are like these creaky, rusty gates spoken of in 1 Corinthians 13:1. Fear, anger, frustration and anxieties can take over the words that we speak. The harsh and hard speech they evoke are not lovely words, and do not describe or generate love. We can get off our path and lose sight of the gate entirely. Perhaps we might sound eloquent and speak words in a vernacular of ‘Christian-ese’, but if no one else understands what we are saying, we are still like these rusty creaking gates. When we don’t allow time for our relationship with Jesus, we tend to get rusty and we might find a squeak here and there. If we neglect Jesus too long, we might find we are in danger of becoming rusted shut. The solution to our creaky rusty situation, isn’t a squirt of WD40, it is the anointing oil of the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the solution we need when we find ourselves creaking like a rusty gate. The best way to eliminate that creaky noise is to dive into the Word and talk things over with Him. When we take the time to talk to Jesus, we realize that our rusty creakiness was temporary, because the Love of God is the very best oil found in the world.
