God will open the window to heaven and we will receive His blessings. We’ve all heard it. Prosperity blessings are preached and taught far and wide, but what does God’s Word teach us? Luke 6:37-38 MSG “Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults—unless, of course, you want the same treatment. Don’t condemn those who are down; that hardness can boomerang. Be easy on people; you’ll find life a lot easier. Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.” Yep. We have to do more and be more and give more and God’s blessings will rain down. God’s not talking about works here. We can’t work our way into His good graces. It’s about how we behave on a daily basis. Our day in and day out behavior when nobody is looking. Yikes.
No picking on people, criticizing them, or jumping on the bandwagon to celebrate someone’s failures and/or mistakes. We’re not talking about picking on our friends or family in a loving way (sarcasm intended wink wink). God’s talking about down right meanness here. Making others feel less than is not the way God intends for His children to behave. Pouncing on someone else’s faults, failures or poor decisions are not going to make us feel better or bigger. Giving not getting is the key. Be generous with your time, talents and treasures. Lend a helping hand and give hope away. Be a positive person and give peace away. Be a happy friend and give joy away. Be a good person and give love away. Our blessings come through our blessings. It’s not about what we get out of life, but about giving life away; the life that Jesus freely gives to us. The spigot of blessing is found when we bless others with His peace, hope, faith and love; His kindness, patience, gentleness and self control; His Life working through our life. Bonus blessings are the result of giving away, and sharing with others, the blessings that God has given us.
