Relax and Respond
It's that time of year. Spring. All the Spring flowers are beginning to bloom beautifully. Bluebells, Phlox, Astors, Goldenrods, Black-Eyed Susan's and all the rest. Everywhere you look beauty is popping up all around. We grab our kids and take pictures with blooms surrounding us. Whether we are hiking, driving or even rock climbing we can see the beauty that surrounds us. The beauty that God creates for this season. The beauty that God creates just for today. 'If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?' 'Most of which are never seen.' That's the part that really intrigues me. Most of which are never seen. This simple statement made me stop, stand still and listen carefully. All around the world there are wildflowers blooming, and no human eye will ever see their beauty. Yet God still gives His detailed attention to each flower. The petals and stems. The stamen and pistils. The aroma and the color. Each delicate detail is a masterpiece of intricate design. Every valley and plain, every mountain pass and rolling hill; at the shore and in the desert; Wildflowers are blooming. Some will be seen and some are in out of the way spots no one will see. Ever. Yet, each one is beautifully and delightfully created. The truly impactful part of this verse; 'don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?' If God is this attentive to the wildflowers, just imagine how much more attentive He is for each one of us. Every single detail about us. Each one of us is even more of a masterpiece. Each one of us is so much more of a masterpiece; a beautiful masterpiece of intricate design and detail. 'What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving.' Respond to God's Giving. God is giving us beautiful things all the time. Do we see them? Are we able to acknowledge the gifts that surround us. We are so easily preoccupied with getting stuff. New stuff, different stuff, stuff like they have or stuff we think we need. Everyone knows the saying; 'the grass is always greener', but it might just be because that grass you're looking at and dreaming about is growing on top of the septic tank. We can get ourselves in debt, in turmoil and in trouble when we become preoccupied with getting. God wants us to relax and enjoy what He is giving. 'Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.' Our everyday human concerns will be met. Everyday. God gives us what we need. Our needs are always met. Our wants may still be there, but we can't allow ourselves to become preoccupied with them. God will provide. Our Jehovah Jireh, our Provider (Gen. 22:14); provides all that we need. Don't worry about missing out. Every detail is seen and will be provided. We are called to relax. Relax and Respond to what God is giving. Relax and Respond. Every day. Matthew 6: 30-33 MSG "If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met."
