I recently went on an extended trip with my husband. Each day we received a weather report for the next day. Invariably that report called for cold temperatures, wind and rain. Each day we dressed in layers prepared for those cold temperatures with wind and rain. Each day the report called for cloudy skies and each day the sun would break through and shine. Each day we were hopeful that our umbrellas would stay packed and each day they did (except once for a very short period). Each day we experienced cold wind, yet we were warm enough because of our layers. Each day we were going about our day prepared for every alternative, and yet each day we had just what we needed. Hopeful and optimistic was our choice as we headed out each day. 1 Peter 1:3-4 MSG “What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future.” We have to remember that we are the luckiest people on earth, because of the love of our Father, God. As our days come and go, and life ultimately continues on; we might get rain and we might not. The thing is, we get to choose our perspective. We can choose to live our lives full of hopeful optimism or we can choose to remain hopelessly pessimistic. God is keeping watch, so it’s safe to be hopeful and optimistic. Whatever the weather, we will always have just what we need. Yes, we can prepare for alternative variabilities, AND we can choose to be hopefully optimistic all at the same time. It’s that simple really. God’s got a plan.
