I went to a middle school choir concert tonight. I attended in support of family members who were participating in the event. I was expecting a delightful experience as these young people open their wings and begin to fly. I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed in the least. I saw extraordinary moments unfolding in these young people’s lives as they were performing. It wasn’t perfect, but it was full of hope and promise. One moment in particular stood out. A young woman began a solo. There she was, standing alone in the spotlight, on a darkened stage. She began singing, when suddenly, before she had completed her first verse, her music completely disappeared. She stumbled for only a moment, and then she did something completely unexpected and extraordinary. She continued on with her song. A cappella. Standing quietly, just her and her voice, she boldly continued her song. I don’t know many adults who would have had the courage (or the wisdom) do what she did tonight. Philippians 1:20 NLT “For I fully expect and hope that I will never be ashamed, but that I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.” I pray that each of us might have this same kind of courage in our Christian walk. The courage to be bold for Christ. The strength of character to be a good representative for Christ. May we have the ability to stand quietly, against the odds, and bring honor to the name of the Lord. May we have the ability to show fortitude and wisdom when we stand alone, in the spotlight, in what may feel like a darkened world. May we too, be as bold. May we too, be as courageous. May we too, be as full of hope and promise, and walk boldly in our faith.
