As I was finishing up writing yesterday’s devotional, I kept coming across numerous pictures of bridges. Hhmmm. Bridges. It started the wheels rolling and I ran right into a song. Paul Simon’s great hit, Bridge Over Troubled Water, is and has been for many years, a wonderfully inspiring song. I was intrigued, so I did some reading on the back story of the songs lyrics. In one article Mr. Simon attributed the song, and it’s lyrics, to something akin to a spiritual experience. Today, as I listened to the song, concentrating on really hearing the lyrics, I weep. I weep with thankfulness that even through this ‘secular’ song, Jesus is inspiring us to know Him. Jesus is inspiring us to know how much He cares for us. Jesus wants us to know that we are never alone. Jesus wants us to know that He is our bridge over troubled waters. Deuteronomy 31:6 MSG “Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because GOD, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.” Even as Joshua was preparing to cross the river into the promised land, even way back then, the Lord was reiterating the reality of His presence as a bridge over troubled waters. He comforted their fears and assured them of His presence. Even today, so many years later, Jesus remains our bridge over troubled waters. He is our comfort and strength. He is the the light that casts out darkness and brings our lives into clarity. His presence in our lives is assured. Jesus is our bridge over troubled waters. Count on it.
