If God is All You Have
“If God is all you have, you have all you need.” I was scrolling through Facebook when I saw this quote ascribed to John 14:8, so naturally I had to look it up. The Holman Christian Standard comes the closest to these particular words, but it definitely got me thinking on the subject. John 14:8 HCSB “Lord,” said Philip, “show us the Father, and that’s enough for us.” We grow up thinking that we need to achieve something that will make us happy. A thing; a degree, a job, a spouse, a family and so forth. Of course this list could include things like relevant relationships, monetary achievements, and of course, it could be a never ending list that goes on to include more and more things. Things. Lists of things that we make in our head or write on paper, but without God that’s all they will ever be. Things. Things do not bring contentment. God is our contentment. God’s desires for us far outweigh anything we could come up with on our own. Satisfied and content. When we have God, we will have more than enough.
