Building Walls and Locking Doors
When troubles befall us, as people, we tend to retreat and build walls. Then we reinforce our walls and continue the theme by locking all the doors. Instead of choosing this path, God’s grace calls on us to reach out and offer thanksgiving in worship. Being thankful during a trial may feel counter intuitive, but our thankful worship is the way out. Our worship, our praise, tears down the walls we have manufactured. Our thankful worship unlocks the doors we have put in place. Our praise allows God’s peace and grace to infiltrate our sorrows with His joy. Psalms 40:2-3 NLT “He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.” Praise is us participating in our new life with Jesus. Praise sets our feet on solid ground, steadying us as we continue on our way back to Joyfulness. Thankful praise is the pathway to Joyfulness. It is through our thankfulness in worship that God’s mercy and grace displaces our weakness with strength, despair with happiness and grief with great joy. Yep, even when we feel like building walls and locking doors, our praise changes everything.
