Sweet Goodness Inside
I read something today that referenced people who are trying to heal from ‘the things that we don’t discuss’. As I reflected on that statement, I was reminded of culling fruit. In days gone by we had a specific chore towards the end of summer. Culling through the fruit. Yep. Picking through the overripe fruit. Washing the fruit was the easy part. Cutting off the bad parts, however, could be messy. All of this was done to preserve the goodness of the fruit. The really tasty, sweet, juicy goodness was there, hiding under all the yucky stuff.
Psalm 32:5 MSG “Then I let it all out; I said, “I’ll make a clean breast of my failures to GOD.” Suddenly the pressure was gone— my guilt dissolved, my sin disappeared.” We all have spots. Spots in our lives where we wish we had chosen differently. Moments that can become moldy, just like the yucky part of fruit. If we hang onto the guilt, we will continue to be molded by it. Letting Jesus wash our guilt means that He offers us freedom from the yuckiness of our past.
Talking to Jesus about ‘the things we don’t discuss’ is the beginning of freedom from their hold on us. It is through our relationship with Jesus that we can get our hearts washed and our wounds healed. We can talk to Him about anything, even the things we never discuss. Talking to Jesus is a journey of discovery that produces the sweet fruit of forgiveness. Jesus is ready. Jesus is ready to cull our old fruit and help us on our journey towards finding our sweet goodness inside. Jesus is there for us. He’s listening. Talk to Him.
