A Pirate Parade
Today, as I sat with my toes in the sand, watching and listening to the waves roll in, enjoying the sunshine, I was feeling happy and contented. The beach is the one of my favorite places. Sand in my toes, a coffee in my hand, along with family and friends. What could be better? Well, it got even better. I saw genuine generous hearts in action today. It was an event. A full blown beach fiesta for kids of all ages. There was fun in sun, swimming in the sea, surfing lessons and pirates. Yep, that’s right. Pirates. Pirates on parade. A great group of people, fully regaled in their pirate garb, joined us on the beach in a pirate parade. As they interacted with the kids, plastic dubloons were scattered along with their smiling faces. One such magical coin was found by my grandson. Without hesitation he jumped up, in a hurry to return the coin to the pirates who had obviously dropped their booty. Deuteronomy 15:10 MSG "Give freely and spontaneously. Don't have a stingy heart. The way you handle matters like this triggers God, your God's, blessing in everything you do, all your work and ventures." He was so excited to be able to give back their lost coin, and they were just as excited to offer him another shiny one in return. Their generosity surpassed the expectation of a child’s heart along with mine. Yes, it was all in fun, but generous hearts were on display today. People helping people be better people. Today’s expression of generosity was a tangible reminder that God’s blessings may arrive in uncustomary costumes. Argh.
