Bad Things Happen
Bad things happen. Unexpected things that can throw us for a loop. Recently an acquaintance went into hospice care, while another person passed away suddenly and without warning. Another friend was in a car accident, and another friend had their credit card information stolen. Bad things happen to good people. It doesn’t mean those people were bad or that they deserved what happened. It means that they have experienced something bad that happened to them. The people in their lives are also experiencing something bad right along with them. Bad things happen. John 16:33 HCSB “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” Bad things happen because we live in the world. The Amplified Version says we will experience tribulations, trials, distress and frustrations. Jesus tells us clearly that in this world we ‘will’ have suffering, but we ‘will’ also have Him. We might live in this world, but we also have Jesus and we can count on Him. Notice that Jesus doesn’t say that He causes these things to happen, but that when they do happen, we will have Him to lean on. Read that again. We can have courage to face the difficulties we experience because we have Jesus. Jesus is our hope; our hope for yesterday, today and tomorrow. When bad things happen, we have Jesus to keep us steady and give us courage. When our sorrows bring us down we ought to land on our knees, because we know that our courage and our hope is found in Jesus.
