An 'A' for Effort
As I was quizzing my grandson on upcoming test, he did very well. I mean I was truly impressed. He understood much more about the subject than I ever have, and he seemed to think that it was fairly straightforward. Then he floored me when he said he was going for a ‘B’ on the test. My response was a sincere question. Why a ‘B’? Aren’t we all supposed to be striving for that ‘A’? Don’t get me wrong, ‘B’s’ are fine. ‘C’s’ are ok too. Doing our best means that we are putting forth our very best effort every time. When we give the best we have to give, and our best lands us with a ‘C’ or a ‘B’, then that’s cool, but we should try for an ‘A’ in everything that we attempt. That includes life. Colossians 3:23 NLT “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” Whatever we are doing, we should be putting forth our best effort. Our best may not compare to someone’s results, but it’s still our best. Whether it’s school, work, or mowing the lawn, we can do our own best work at whatever we are doing. True, we are not all going to be Rembrandt, but we can probably paint a half decent wall. We may not be the person who will invent the next big thing (or perhaps we are <big grin>), but we can figure out ways to put our best effort into all of our endeavors. Effort and effectively increasing our own expectations, may be that thing that gets us over the hump when we get stalled. We strive for an ‘A’ in effort because God is seeking our best. God put our gifts inside of us for a reason, and we should put our best effort into everything we attempt. Our very best is always ‘A’ blessing.
