Rushing to Catch Up
I don’t know about you, but mornings can be hard for me. I struggle to wake up enough to hear the alarm, let alone turn it off and get up. Coffee and stillness eventually turn around and I head into wakefulness. It is normally a comfortable and comforting time, sitting in the stillness, as I discuss the day’s activities with the Lord. Usually, and unless I am suddenly quickened that I am late for something. Then the stillness quickly becomes a fast paced rush to catch up. Psalms 118:24 NLT “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Just this morning a friend shared a story about her frustration over running late and rushing to catch up suddenly turning around during in a moment of stillness. As she raced to catch up, God displayed His glory in the sunrise and she was reminded that the day was made for rejoicing instead of complaining. ‘For this is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.’ When we find ourselves frustrated and rushing to catch up, we need to take a moment and reflect on God’s intentions for our day. When we take the time to pause for a moment with the Lord, our entire day has the potential to be transformed into a joyfully led day.
