Making a Difference
I love walking the aisles in my favorite hardware store. I wander, putter and ponder ideas, and I get inspired. Whenever I can, I try to take the time to talk and chat with the employees. It’s almost always a fun visit. However, this afternoon’s visit was an exception, but in the best possible way. We were looking for a specific item that would match our current project, and we eventually found the perfect item, but not in the place you’d expect to find it. It was only found, because we encountered a willingness to help others that was truly inspiring. All because of one employee, it wasn’t only my usual fun experience, it was an exceptional experience. Colossians 3:23 NLT “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” This guy went all out as he helped us find just the right item. We had looked through the section; and we had found the correct color, but not in the style we were searching for. He had already checked the stock listings on the computer, so we knew that there were three of them in the store, but where they were was anybody’s guess. He joined in and searched alongside of us, and then he got out the giant ladder lift and searched through all the boxes on the very top shelf. He didn’t just look through a box or two either, he had to have sifted through twenty or more boxes when he finally found them. It was exactly what we needed, but it definitely took a great employee who was willing to go above and beyond to help us find it. Herman reminded me that when we give that little bit of extra effort, it makes a difference in people’s lives. Here’s a big shout of gratitude to Herman, the guy who’s willingness to help made a difference in this person’s life.
