Each winter wild ducks begin to gather on our little lake. It begins with just two, a pair hanging out and living life. In a week or two there are a few more, and their numbers continue to grow as they gather throughout the winter months. As I was watching the ducks flit about today, it dawned on me that they are doing just what they are supposed to be doing. Gathering, playing, eating, sharing, and communicating with their community. Maybe this little group is all family by blood and maybe they are family because they are living their lives together. Year after year, they show up for one another and live life together. That’s family. John 1:16-17 MSG “We all live off his generous bounty, gift after gift after gift. We got the basics from Moses, and then this exuberant giving and receiving, This endless knowing and understanding— all this came through Jesus, the Messiah.“ We too, live life together. Sharing our gifts with one another, giving and receiving as we go about life. Showing up for one another. Gathering, playing, eating, sharing, and communicating with one another. We are doing just what we are supposed to be doing; living life together exuberantly. Exuberant living because with Jesus we have the greatest of gifts; the gift that is found in His love. Exuberant living because we are blessed by His bounty, knowledge and understanding. Exuberant living because all this came through and because of Jesus. That’s family.
