The Difference

We know all about who we were, but we struggle to recognize the person that we are today. Overcoming our own self image is something that many of us face on a regular basis. One day we are filled with hope for our future and the next we only see yesterday's failures. When we consider our image in the mirror, we tend to see all of our own failings and the many twists and turns of our past; the dark hallways, the narrow shortcuts and long paths of challenges that brought us to who we are today. We tend to focus backwards on yesterday's results instead of focusing on today’s image of us. Although our own personal struggle may be somewhere in between these extremes of highs and lows, each of us is somewhere between the 'who we were' versus the 'who we are' of today. How we view ourselves can be complex and challenging. 1 Peter 2:9-10 MSG "But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted." Read that passage again. We know who we are. We are the chosen ones of God. Period. We may have to tell ourselves on a regular basis, but it’s the truth. Maybe we have to put up a post it note on our mirror to remind us, but remembering who we are today is important. We are worth the effort. Jesus says we are. Jesus gave up everything for us. Everything. We are not who we once were, because we have been made brand new through the love of Jesus. When those old images come out of the blue, quickly send them packing with today’s truth. The real us is the vision that God sees; that’s who we are. We are the person that God created us to be. Live as the best version of us that we can be; the saved and sanctified person that we are today, loved and chosen for a purpose and with a purpose. Get out there and live life well, and share the story of the night-and-day difference Jesus made in our life—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted and deeply loved. We are the chosen ones of God, and we are worth everything and more to Jesus and that makes all the difference.
