Soft Words

Communication can be a hotbed issue of frustration, especially when we are limited by a telephone. Most of us have encountered a difficult situation while attempting to discuss an important issue; calling tech support and getting transferred from one department to another, a bill that is more than anticipated and we are trying to discover why, or our doctors office staffs communication techniques leave a lot to be desired. When our point isn’t getting across, we can get to the place where we just want to yell. We think that maybe then they’ll understand us. We all know that doesn’t work, but ... there are times when our voices definitely become ‘firmer’. Yelling can seem like a reasonable response when we are frustratingly unable to communicate our intentions. We are speaking, and yet no one else seems to understand what we are saying. When we're confronted with conflicting responses we can feel unheard, and when the other speaker becomes hostile or confrontational we can respond in kind, which usually only helps the situation dwindle and we get nowhere even faster.

Proverbs‬ ‭15:1‬ ‭AMPC‬‬ "A SOFT answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.” ‭ God is so good to us. He provides us with easy to understand guidance that illustrates the how to's of everyday life circumstances. Soft words is not only about volume (although not yelling is usually a much more helpful form of communication), soft words is also about remaining calm, speaking with respect and dignity, for ourselves and for the people we are speaking with. Soft words reminds us of the power behind our words. Soft words is about trying hard to breathe deeply and remain relaxed. Soft words is about reminding ourselves that humor and kindness can diffuse a difficult situation. Smiling, even when we're on the phone, makes a difference. Soft words means that we turn down the volume in order to be heard.
