When No One is Watching

One of my friends recently remarked that we should compliment others. We may not realize how simple compliments can completely change someone’s day for the better, but it does. Whether it’s someone’s hairstyle, hair color, blouse, tie or their overall flair for style; when we make a point of making a positive comment it matters. We can see their countenance change, that great smile brighten and we know that our simple words have boosted their mood. Perhaps someone has done something well; that well done compliment can go along way and may mean more than we ever anticipated. On the flip side, we may be the kind person who goes out of our way to do something nice for someone, goes above and beyond, and yet it seems to go completely unnoticed or appears to be unappreciated; and that can be a bummer. These moments can be frustrating and make us rethink our intentions and our actions. When we take a moment to analyze our perspective, we often realize it’s not really about us. We are going about our Father’s business, and that makes all the difference in the world. Ephesians‬ ‭6:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬ “Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” ‭‭ Yes, those moments can be frustrating but we have to remind ourselves that no matter who else sees or notices what we have done (or haven’t done for that matter), God always does. We want to please God not people. When we find ourselves in this type of frustrating situation we have to realize that we can’t change their perspective. What we can do is pray that their eyes will begin to see and that their hearts will be changed, because God has placed us in their lives. We get the opportunity to be our best selves, to demonstrate the love of Jesus to the world, but ultimately their heart change is God’s job. Life is short, so instead of worrying about what others think, let’s try to be the best person that we can be, the person we know God wants us to be, even when no one is watching.
