Except for the Suddenly’s
Sometimes life is harder than we expect. It can feel like people and circumstances are against us at every turn. Nothing seems to be going right. One step forward and three steps backwards feels more like ten steps backwards and then ten or twenty more just to add to the fun and make it rip-roaringly exhilarating. Time slows to a crawl and then it is moving so fast we can’t keep up. Until suddenly. Suddenly the sun is shining and all is right in the world.
Genesis 50:20 MSG
“Don’t you see, you planned evil against me but God used those same plans for my good, as you see all around you right now—life for many people.”
I imagine Joseph felt much the same way. So many steps backwards to make sense and yet he was right where he needed to be all the time. When we read Joseph’s entire story (Genesis 37-50), we could never imagine walking through some of the ups and downs of his life. Favorite son to a deep, dark hole. Favored slave to impossible circumstances. Imprisoned to the guy in charge. Ups, downs and all arounds and that was just part of his story. Except for the suddenly’s; evil doesn’t stand a chance against God’s plans for our lives. Steps forward or steps back, whichever way it goes, as long as we take those steps with God, He will use them for our good...and suddenly the Son will be shining and all is right with the world.
