High Hopes

Confidence in ourselves and in our abilities can be hard to come by, especially when we’re beginning something new. Struggling with self confidence is something most people deal with, so we are not alone. When I first began speaking in public I was a nervous wreck. Stumbling over my words and trembling with fear. I was a sight, as my grandma would say. I held a position that required me to lead monthly business meetings and speak at large community events. I didn't have a background in public speaking or any idea about how to run a business meeting. So what did I do? We all start new things at the beginning, so I got started, right there at the beginning. I put in the hours and I did the work. I made mistakes and I learned from them. I sought out mentors, found opportunities to practice, studied (Roberts Rules are hard y'all) and I learned. Some might call it 'on the job training', but eventually that nervousness settled and I became more confident and self assured. Business meetings and speaking to large crowds is not as scary as it once was. It can still be challenging, but I'm here to tell you, it can be done.

Just reading these words takes me back to lessons learned as a child. To that little train that could, 'I think I can, I think I can'. Then there is the always that able ant, his rubber tree plant and all his ‘high hopes‘. Time, effort and a positive attitude can take us far in life. Self confidence is only the beginning of the bigger picture that is ahead for each of us. Practice and a positive attitude are two of the keys to self confidence, but that confidence ultimately comes from faith in God.

Matthew 19:26 NLT

“Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.”

When God places you in position to do something, do it with all you've got. Don't just do enough to get by, give it your all and be extraordinary. What can be achieved when we give it our all? Just about anything! When we put our mind, effort and heart into something, anything is possible. Remember this: Our God is the God of the impossible, not the probable. If God has brought you to it, He will see you through it. So, Run! Just Run! Go for it! Anything is possible when God's got your back!
