Lament. Lamenting. Lamentations. This particular book of the Bible is mainly thought of as one of sorrow and grief. Destruction of what was is being mourned. There is sadness and even despair. Yet, it is also so much more.
Lamentations 3:24 AMP
“The Lord is my portion and my inheritance,” says my soul; “Therefore I have hope in Him and wait expectantly for Him.”
While Lamentations expresses pain and sorrow over the loss of Jerusalem, there is also a hope found in its verses. While Jeremiah was lamenting the loss of Jerusalem, we may be lamenting another loss altogether. Through these words we learn that even with great loss there is also great hope. Hope that God will provide deliverance from the circumstances of discouragement that afflicts us. Hope that comes because of Jesus. Hope. Even in our sorrows we can have hope; wait expectantly.
