Poetry in Motion
Generally, we tend to look outwards, helping and assisting those who are in our sphere of influence. Today, I was inspired after reading a quote from a friend about self care. Selflessly, yep selflessly (not selfishly), we have to take time for ourselves. Selflessness helps us act from our heart and spirit instead of from our ego (our all about me part). We all need to take that bit of selfless time, because it is that time which fills us up so that we can handle all the ins and outs of our daily lives. Quite time with a good book, an afternoon nap, a work out, a bike ride, a long overdue massage, a morning run, a sunset walk on the beach ... in whatever way we take that time, we need to do it for ourselves, so that we can do all the rest of what goes on in our lives.
Ephesians 2:10a TPT
“We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!”
Then I read this verse and the image of us as poetry was ... well ... it stopped me in my tracks and I had to read it again. Poetry is defined as literature (in this case that literature is us) that evokes a concentrated imaginative awareness of an experience or a specific emotional response chosen and arranged for its meaning, sound, and rhythm. This description of poetry reminded me of the verse about walking in tandem with Jesus in His unforced rhythms of grace.
Matthew 11:29-30 MSG
“I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Walking in tandem with Jesus also teaches us self care. His unforced rhythms keep us in step with Him, nothing too heavy or ill fitting, but just right. Walking with Jesus as our guide, we will know when to rest and when to run. Walking in step with Jesus means that we will always be ready and able to fulfill our God given destiny in our everyday, average, regular lives ... That’s us ... God’s poetry in motion.
