“Sign, sign, everywhere a sign.
Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind. Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?”
Lyrics from an old song by the Five Man Electrical Band. Many of us know all the lyrics to this song by heart. Those same lyrics popped into my head today as my boss and I were making some adjustments to a display. A simple urging of the Holy Spirit to make a change, to move in a completely different direction and the entire thing came together with a beautiful result. Signs. They weren’t really singing about the Holy Spirit, but then again maybe they were too, because in the bridge they sang “so I got me a pen and a paper and I made up my own little sign. I said, "Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me. I'm alive and doin' fine" Wooo! When we stop and look, if we take the opportunity to listen, God’s signs are all around us; even in the mundane, rearranging of things to be more appealing.
John 14:26 AMP
“But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.
The urging of the Holy Spirit is a sign that we should all take the time to read. As we are going through our days, we ‘feel’ a simple instruction, and when we follow that instruction, our steps are sure. When we don’t, when we miss the sign, we miss out on so much. I don’t know how many times I’ve regretted not listening ... not because I didn’t hear, but because I thought I must have been hearing wrong. Usually it’s been about a purchase ... and if you know me, you know I’m a clearance section queen, so I will talk myself out of whatever that urging is telling me to do, and a week or two later, maybe even that same day ... I regretfully realize that I missed an opportunity to see that sign and listen to God’s message. Simply said we have to take the time to listen, because The Hoy Spirit is there giving us signs all the time ... signs, signs, everywhere are signs ... and don’t forget to say ... Thank you Lord for thinkin’ about me.’
