Take a Walk with Jesus
I feel like most of us feel; tired. This quarantine thing is exhausting. I don’t know about you, but I am tired and worn out. I’m burned out on all the conflicting information on the information highways. We watch one report and then another; we read articles and look up stuff and yet we still do not feel like we have a good understanding of the reality of our situation. It’s confusing and confounding and we just need a break from it all.
Matthew 11:29-30 MSG
“Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Jesus tells us that He will teach us how to walk in His unforced rhythms of grace; living life freely and lightly. This passage brings to mind that old hymn ‘I come to the Garden Alone’. Just like in that garden; the dew is twinkling on the roses as we walk together. The sounds of morning are hushed and quiet as the sunlight sparkles and dances across the garden. Even the birds hush as they too listen to His voice...and He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am his own; and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known. Now this is a place to find rest.
Some days it’s a getaway at the ocean. The sparkle of the waves as they roll onto the shore on a bright sunny day. The rhythmic movement is so easy and soothing; the sounds are so relaxing as they move with the sound of His voice. The wind is warm and the breeze has just the right amount of cooling to be comfortable as we chat.
Perhaps occasionally the imagery is more like resting on top of a sun warmed rock that is nestled next to a creek. The gentle sounds of His voice moving with the sounds of the water as it runs against its banks. The picture of the stream as it makes its way through a pasture that is covered in green grass, wild berry bushes and wildflowers. Butterflies are flitting about, birds are singing and the trees are making music with the wind and the sound of His voice as He speaks.
Whatever we picture on any given day, as long as Jesus is there with us, we will find rest. Take a walk with Jesus and find His unforced rhythm of grace.
