United We Stand
“Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs.” Patrick Henry’s last speech includes the words ‘United We Stand, Divided We Fall’; words which lead in no small part to the creation of the US Bill of Rights. ‘United We Stand’ were words made famous once again by Abraham Lincoln and became the battle cry of the Union Army during America’s civil war. ‘United We Stand’ was the motto of the Allied nations during WWII that kept our world free from tyranny. Most recently these same words, ‘United We Stand’ brought the United States of America together following the devastating aftermath of 9/11/2001.
Genesis 13:8 NIV
“Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me . . . for we are close relatives.”
This verse, and these words, are words that imply a kinship, a coming together of people’s who share the same deep ideals. ‘United We Stand’ isn’t just a good saying. We should not, we can not forget that we are also family; brothers and sisters in the family of God. We may each do things differently, after all we are each uniquely and individually created by God with a purpose and for a purpose, yet we should all remain united in that purpose. Patrick Henry started it all out right with the words ‘Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right ...’ Truth has never been so true. Trust God, use sound judgment, and don’t split into factions that will destroy our very foundation. United We Stand, because WE stand upon the Rock.
Bonus note ... naturally my head is filled music and it is filled with the chorus from the 1970’s version of ‘United We Stand’.
