As I came across this chapter today, I thought of all of us who are struggling with all the mixed up ingredients that make up our world today. Isolated and full of anxiety. Angry and full of frustration. Fearful and full of trepidation. Tired. Just plain tired of all the things and all of the people and all of the stuff that keeps changing. For those of us who are feeling these feelings and maybe even beginning to lose hope, don’t. As I was reading these verses, I had to find the song...the song that was running through my mind. It was Lincoln Brewsters version of ‘Everlasting God’ and especially as the child quotes these verses at the end of the song.
Isaiah 40:28-31 NLT
“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
For those of us who are feeling these things we can lean into the Lord and find strength. Our God never grows weak or weary. He gives us power and strength when we feel weak and weary. When we trust in the Lord we will gather new strength to press on, because this too shall pass, and until then trust in the Lord.
Our God IS the Everlasting God, and those who trust Him will find new strength. We will soar high on wings like eagles. We will run and not grow weary. We will walk and not faint. Lean In. Press in. Lean in and press in so that we can press on.
