I remember going to a church once, that had a sign above the exit of the sanctuary door that said "you are now entering the mission field". The mission field? What? Me? A missionary? No way...but, then I talked it over with Jesus. Maybe that statement just reverberated with you! Have you ever considered that wherever your feet take you, you are walking on a mission field? What about you? Are you called to leave your home and spread the gospel to the world? Yes! Yes you are. Each one of us is. (Matthew 28: 19-20)
Do you believe you are called to a specific mission field, a specific ministry? I believe we are all called. Sometimes it's in a foreign land, or it might be in your city's community center, at your church, in a playground or it might be in your own back yard. There have been different seasons in my life where I was on a specific mission for a specific time. Wife, Mom, Nurse, GA's Leader, Girl Scout Leader, Military Spouses Leader/Coordinator, Daughter, Grandmother (Me-Me), Worship Leader, Events Coordinator, Caregiver, Pastor, Events Speaker and now Writer. I'm sure there were more that I didn't mention, and I'm sure that there are still more mission fields to come. Some missions last a lifetime, some for a few years or maybe just a few weeks, but they are all part of our mission field.
So, that brings me to this; don't keep thinking the mission field is all about the missionaries. The Mission Field is all about you too. What are we called to do? We are all called, or 'commissioned', to share the love of Jesus with others; teach them about and show them Jesus by your words and actions. (Matthew 28: 19-20)
How do we do that in our "everyday, ordinary lives—our sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around lives" (Romans 12:1). We should be there for each other, be supportive instead of critical; be constructive, encouraging, creative and thoughtful; don't be a hindrance but a helper, work well with others, follow directions, do what you say you're going to do and say what you are able to do, and do it when you said you were going to do it; do everything you do to the best of your abilities, and don't give up or stop until God says it's time to move on to something new.
Everyday, everywhere you go is a Mission Field. Get out there and run a good race!
Hebrews 12: 12 MSG
So don’t sit around on your hands! No more dragging your feet! Clear the path for long-distance runners so no one will trip and fall, so no one will step in a hole and sprain an ankle. Help each other out. And run for it!
