John 10: 6-10 MSG
Jesus told this simple story, but they had no idea what he was talking about. So he tried again. “I’ll be explicit, then. I am the Gate for the sheep. All those others are up to no good—sheep stealers, every one of them. But the sheep didn’t listen to them. I am the Gate. Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.
I read this article the other day about a shepherd and his sheep. When the sheep come in for the night the shepherd will lay across the entrance, in front of the door. This allows the shepherd to place his body between his sheep and the danger that exists outside the door. The sheep don't move without the shepherd knowing because he is in front of the door. Nothing can get in to the sheep because he is between the danger and the door.
Jesus is like that shepherd. Once we become one of His sheep He lays His body between the danger and the door. What does that mean? Jesus as my Lord, is my Shepherd; as His follower, I am one of His sheep. Jesus opens the door, but we have to choose to go in. We have to choose to be a follower. When we do Jesus placed Himself between the danger and the door.
The thief is like a wolf in sheep's clothing that tries to get us away from the door. The thief, just like that wolf, wants to lead you away from all that Jesus offers. The goal of the wolf is to steal, kill, and destroy. The goal of the Shepherd is for us to have More and Better. Jesus gave His life here on earth so that we could have a forever life in heaven. Jesus places Himself between the danger of hell and opens the door to heaven. Jesus stands between the danger and the door. Open that door to More and Better.
A MORE and BETTER life than we ever dreamed possible. I want that! Don't you?
