Priorities

December 6, 2016

Tonight my husband and I were invited to a middle school Christmas program.  Our Goddaughter was singing as a soloist for the first time with her school choir.  She had made a point of calling us several weeks in advance to invite us to the program. As you can imagine she was very excited and very nervous.

My husband arrived before me and was waiting for me near the door. He was, naturally, talking with people he knew before the event started. My friend overheard someone say to him "Hey, aren't you supposed to be at another event?"  My husband's response was priceless.  "We all have priorities".

He was scheduled to be at another event tonight but was able to make his schedule work so that he could support our Goddaughter.  He was there for her performance and then dashed away to his other meeting.

Priorities. We all have them in our lives. Our Goddaughter made us a priority when she made that call. She was purposeful in calling several weeks in advance so that we could make the event work with our schedules. My husband was available because she made the invitation so thoughtfully, which made it a priority to him.

Priorities. God cares about the details in our lives. He is as proud of our Goddaughter as we were tonight. He wants us to make our families and friends a priority in our lives. Not at the expense of something else, but because the little things matter too.  Make time. Make a difference. It matters.

Matthew 6: 30-33
“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
