Busted Hope

December 29, 2016

I have been reading through the Book of Ruth and it took me back to a message I prepared for a conference where I spoke on the subject of Ruth and Naomi. Ruth is rich with all kinds of truths. Four little chapters with such an immense story of redemption and love tucked inside its pages. When you first read Ruth you'll find a wonderful picture of sacrificial love. When you start to really study Ruth, you find such a rich back story of how God takes our poor attitudes and our misguided mistakes and makes them part of His purpose. You can see it there in the story of Naomi.

Naomi had lost everything and then some. She was starving, destitute, alone (or so she thought) and determined to return home to Israel. She's of the mind set that she was gonna die anyway, so she's might as well go home to do it. Israel or bust and Naomi believed it was a busted, hopeless, lost cause anyway.

God, however, had other plans for Naomi. She ended up playing an instrumental role in the marriage of the great grandparents of the future King of Israel, David, and through his bloodline, Jesus.

God, doesn't stop working in and through us, because we have a case of the blues, a bad attitude or even when we make mistakes. God can take all our misguided choices and turn them into a message.

When you are feeling hopeless and singing the 'Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, might as well go eat worms' song, Stop! Stop and take a page from the book of Ruth and the saga of Naomi. You can find hope for tomorrow, just like Naomi, because, no matter how hopeless a situation might seem, no matter how desperate things may look, you too have a Kinsman Redeemer and His name is Jesus.

Ruth 4:14 NLT

"Then the women of the town said to Naomi, “Praise the Lord, who has now provided a redeemer for your family! May this child be famous in Israel."
