Accountability

December 30, 2016

Hebrews 10:24   NLT

"Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works."

How do we get through the hurdles of life without knocking over every single gate we come upon? Have you ever struggled in your personal relationships? Have you ever had challenges in your interpersonal communication skills? Perhaps you have difficulty setting boundaries for yourself? Do you have trouble setting, striving for and accomplishing goals? These are a just a few of the many hurdles we can struggle with on this journey we call life. One way to help find our way through and over all of the obstacles is to find an accountability partnership/group.

Accountability. What does an accountability partner/group mean? This verse from Hebrews 10:24 pretty much sums it up. A person or group that you can partner with to motivate you to complete acts of love and good works. This type of accountability partnership/group is based on your mutual faith in God; is generally of the same gender; and shares a common commitment to the partnership or group. An accountability partnership will evolve and change as the individuals involved conquer the various seasons of their lives; accountable to one another.

What should you look for in an accountability partnership/group? People you can trust with secrets and dreams so that you can be as honest with them as possible. People who will be just as honest, direct and open in their discussions with you. People who are non-judgmental and who maintains their own integrity. People who have the ability to quickly discern situations and also have valid questions and answers. People who listen well and who are able to see the real you. People who are supportive and inspire you; who challenge you to be and do more than you ever thought possible. People who you can pray with and who pray for you and for each other.  Your partnership/group should contain mature Christians, who can help you learn and grow spiritually.

Having an accountability partnership/group is a great way to build each other up, and to grow and learn together. You will find the you can lean on each other during the difficult seasons and enjoy celebrating the amazing seasons together.

I encourage you to find an accountability partnership/group that cherishes God and each other through all the hurdles; whether you're falling, crashing and fumbling through the hurdles or running, jumping and flying over them like you're winning Olympic Gold; accountable through all the hurdles of life.
