The law of the Old Testament wasn't done away with; the law was fulfilled in Jesus. Have you ever heard this statement before?
What is Jesus talking about? It can be confusing. Look at the verse here in the NLT.
Matthew 5:17 NLT
"Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose."
Jesus fulfills every promise of the coming Messiah. All the prophets words and every promise concerning the 1st coming of the Messiah are fulfilled in and through Jesus. As the Messiah, the Lamb of God, Jesus takes the place of every sacrifice required under the law.
Yes, Jesus fulfills the sacrificial system in place in the Old Testament. In Jesus, we no longer have to continually make sacrifices for our sins. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for each one of us. We no longer need doves, rams and lambs, because Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice. He is the Lamb of God.
We no longer live under the condemnation of the law because Jesus came 'not to condemn but to save the world'. (John 3:17) Jesus himself, removes the condemnation, the guilt and the penalty of the law through His love.
Through Jesus every purpose and promise is fulfilled. We, who are covered by His love, are the recipients of this eternal promise.
