What is Grace and Mercy and how and when do we get them? Deep questions that have deeper answers. Let's dive into the deep water.
What is Grace and Mercy? Grace is God giving us good things that we don't deserve. Mercy is God not giving us what we do deserve because of sin.
When do Mercy and Grace enter our lives? When we accept the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ we receive God's mercy for our past sins and God's grace to help us going forward.
Then what is the 'thing' that urges us to accept Jesus as our Savior? God's Love reaches out to us as unbelievers. Love. God loved us so much that He sent His Son so that we could have everlasting life. Love calls to us. God's love for us reaches out to us. God's love for us pulls at our innermost being. God's love for us calls to our hearts. We, as humans, are born with free will. Free will means we can say yes or no to God's love. We have to decide to say yes. We have to choose Jesus.
What happens when we say yes to Jesus? We receive some very special gifts. These Gifts are given, not because we did something to deserve them, but because Jesus freely gave up His life, so that He could give them to us. Salvation includes (but is not limited to) life everlasting, mercy to cover our sins and grace to help us as we live the rest of our lives. Without these gifts we would not be able to approach God. Now, because of Jesus, we can boldly go to God. We can talk to Him about anything and everything.
Will we immediately change and 'be good'? Nope. We grow, we change and we mature as believers, but the fact remains that we are humans. We will make mistakes and bad decisions. We also still live in a world where bad things happen. God's mercy and grace will continue to cover us and help us through whatever comes our way.
Does that mean that Salvation gives you a 'free pass' to continue living however you want? Nope. When you accept Jesus you are saved. Yes. You're forgiven (mercy) and the Holy Spirit (grace) will become part of you. That's God's part of the salvation equation. You also have your part. Your part is to try to do your best to follow His word. If you do your part, you will find that the way you live your life will change. As you learn, read, pray and listen you will find that your desires change. Everyday forward, your life and how you live it, changes as you grow in God's love. Every day the rest of your life.
Salvation can be defined as an everlasting extended warranty that covers our daily need for Grace and Mercy.
Mercy and Grace. Gifts that we don't deserve and could never earn on our own, no matter how hard we tried.
Hebrews 4:16 NLT
"So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."
