Stranded and Lost

March 3, 2017

Have you ever been stranded and lost? I heard a story today about an old man and a couple who were both stranded and lost.

This old man was stranded on a bench in a grocery store parking lot. He believed that he was 'too far gone' for God to care about him. He had relegated himself to sitting on a bench and watching the world go by. He had made some mistakes over the years and he was sure that God no longer had any use for him.  He was stranded and lost.

You see, this man had been a preacher. He had worked and served the Lord for many years when he had been hurt. His injuries were not in his body, but his heart.  He determined that in order to make the best of a bad situation, he would walk away and heal all on his own. He walked away from his community of believers and from God.  Over time he lost his way.

Years later, still separated from God, he met a couple whose vehicle had broken down. This couple, stranded and searching for help with their repairs, walked past him on his bench several times.  Eventually they struck up a conversation with the old man. As he helped them find their way to the repairs they needed for their vehicle, they helped him find his way to repairing his relationship with God.

God stranded them there in order to help him find his way home. He thought he was 'too far gone' for God to care about anymore, but God still cared. You see, this couple, on their way to speak at a church convention, had an appointment they didn't know about. They thought their journey had an unexpected delay. Stranded and searching for repairs, they found something unexpected.  What looked like a disaster, was in reality a divine appointment.

The next time you find yourself stranded and broken down; or lost and sitting on a bench; or even searching for a way through your broken places, don't be afraid. Remember this couple (and this old man), because you never know when you might be in for a divine appointment.   Don't be afraid to turn to God. Even if you think you have 'past the point of no return', there is a way.  Jesus IS always the Way.  Jesus has the answers. We can count on Him to help us find our way through our broken places back to Him.

The moral of this story?  Don't give up on God. He never gives up on us.

1 Samuel 12:20 MSG

"Samuel said to them, “Don’t be fearful. It’s true that you have done something very wrong. All the same, don’t turn your back on God. Worship and serve him heart and soul!"
