Class: Praise100

March 7, 2017

We hear words like Praise God in your storm. Praise God no matter what. Praise God when you feel like your life is going to take you under. Praise God all the time. Praise God when you're walking through fire. Praise God when you don't know what else to do. What if you don't know how to Praise or what that even means?

You Praise God when you're happy. You Praise God when you're sad. You Praise God when you're faced with a struggle and when your situation is bad. You Praise God when your life is going great. You Praise God when you have every reason to say thanks. You Praise. Still what does it mean to Praise? How do you Praise?

Here is the syllabus for Praise Class 100.

Psalm 100 (MSG) teaches us everything we need to know about what Praise means and how to go about it. Everything you ever need to know about how to Praise, but were afraid to ask, right here in Psalm 100. Spelled out in easy to follow steps.

Verses 1 - 2

"On your feet now—applaud God! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence."

Stand up. Clap your hands. Laugh and sing yourself into His presence. How do you do this when your heart is breaking? You stand up, clap your hands and sing yourself into His presence. Tears might be falling, but before you know it, you will soon be smiling. Joyful laughter will follow if you give God a chance.

Let's go through that one more time. Stand up (or while driving your car, laying on your bed, or even on your knees). Clap your hands (snap your fingers, tap your steering wheel, shake your foot). Laugh (weep, giggle, moan or cry) and sing (sing your heart out, sing like nobody's listening {just you and God}, sing all the sad, sad songs, sing all the foot tapping songs, sing and dance.) your way into His presence. Here, in this moment, God doesn't care if you can or can't carry a tune in a bucket, just sing. Make a JOYful noise!  Sing yourself into His presence.

Verse 3

"Know this: God is God, and God, God. He made us; we didn’t make him. We’re his people, his well-tended sheep."

Know it! Know! It!

God is God and we are not. He made us. We did not make Him. He is our God. We are His people. He is our Good Shepherd and we are His well tended sheep.

Verse 4

"Enter with the password: “Thank you!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank him. Worship him."

Say thank you! Thank God for all your blessings. Thank God for that encouraging person He sent your way. Thank God for covering your broken places with His love. Thank God for stilling your fear and trembling with His strength. Thank God for His compassion, grace and mercy that you need every day. Tell Him anything and everything. Talk to Him and Thank Him.

Verse 5

"For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever."

The Lord is good. His unfailing love is forever. He is always faithfulness and true. He is generous and loving. You can count on Him. Forever and ever and ever.

Stand up, clap your hands, laugh and sing (or sing and then laugh). Remember He is God and He knows everything (everything!) about you. Thank God for whatever is going on in your world. Remind yourself that God's love never fails and that His love endures forever and ever and ever. Praise Him!

So, if you ever find yourself at a place where you don't know how to praise, take out Psalm 100. Follow its easy steps and put on your Praise.
