I heard a joke today. It was one of those puns on truth kinda saying. I giggled and yes, I laughed out loud. I like the little guys, so it wasn't about that. It was a check for me, personally. It was one of those sayings that causes us to recognize the truth of the words in the visual image the words evoke.
'Decide. Right or wrong, make a decision. The road of life is paved with flat squirrels who couldn't make a decision.'
Gosh. I know when that little guy runs out in front of my car, I pray that he makes the right decision. I always check my rear view and make sure that he made it ok. It's awful when they have that frozen in time, unable to make a decision moment. We cringe and try to turn our wheels, hoping for the best. One of us has to do something, or as the saying goes ... it will be a flat squirrel moment. Tears will be inevitable.
Decisions. We make them everyday. From the mundane to the extraordinary. We choose. We decide stuff. We decide to get up out of bed. We decide to brush our teeth. We decide to respond with Grace to the negative nellies. We decide to move across the country. We decide to turn down that job. We decide that we should go get that degree after all. We decide who to vote for. We decide to make a break from that relationship. We decide that we won't be training to run a marathon. We decide to smile and laugh and be joyful. We decide stuff.
Are you stuck trying to decide what to do? We've all been there at one time or another. We have to decide something. We procrastinate. Procrastination is just us hoping that it will all turn out ok in the end. I guess if you really think about it, procrastination is a decision. It's a decision to do nothing. Flat squirrel time.
We can get caught up in the what if's and the how to's and end up standing still in our fears of the unknown. Again, it's a do nothing decision and a flat squirrel kinda moment.
We don't have to decide things on our own. Trust God. Listen for His voice. Everywhere and with everything. He's there. Watching and waiting for the opportunity to keep us on track. His wisdom keeps us off the path of the flat squirrel moments. Instead we are surging ahead with power and purpose. There are infinite possibilities when we go to God and listen to His advice. Trust God from the bottom of your heart. Decide.
Proverbs 3: 5-6 MSG
"Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track."
