Confident Humility

July 22, 2017

Confident Humility. Huh? Do what? These two words don't seem like they should to go together, but let me tell you they are a partnership made in heaven.

Confidence can be intimidating. When others aren't there yet, when they are checking out all the details that you say and do, your confident authority can threaten their own perspective. It's a more commonplace issue than we might think. When we are aware that there is an issue, we should attempt to address with love. What does that mean for us?

As a Child of God we walk in confident assurance of who we are in Him. In that walk, we must also exude an aptitude of humility. Grace and Love is the key. Be thoughtful of those who are coming up behind you. Your confidence can be perceived as pushing your way to the front. You're not necessarily pushy, but your enthusiasm and can-do-it style can intimidate others. Be sure to be encouraging and inclusive.

Confidently speaking your mind, discussing options and making suggestions can be misconstrued. Be generous with your words, uplifting another's gifts as beneficial. Listen with your heart and be thoughtful with your words. Distance yourself from the impression of sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Helping others reach their potential is discipleship. Being able to forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand is chocked full of love and grace. Be agreeable, not argumentative. Stand firm on your beliefs, and be bold without being pushy.  Love others and be a good friend.

We all want to do well in our chosen field. We all have aspirations and dreams that we are striving to achieve. We don't have to be obsessed with getting ahead and taking advantage of others in the process. We know that God has a good plan for us. We don't have to push and shove and break down doors. God will open every door we need, when we are ready to walk through them. When we walk in the path He sets before us, we can let go of obsession and over zealous striving.

Be confident in God's plan. Be confident in your walk with Him. Be humble and generous and ready to extend Grace. Confident humility is easily found when we walk in and full of His Grace and Love.

Philippians 2: 2-4
"Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand."
